Stick a yard sign in it…the Charlotte residential real estate market is dead…or is it!? The media of course would have you believe no-one is willing or able to buy a home ~ foreclosures are climbing, credit scores are dropping and now interest rates are on the rise. Well…. [Jane] It just goes to show you it’s always somethin’ if it’s not one thing it’s anotherroseanne-rosannadanna-HULU video

I know you’re thinking what happened to Friday Fun? what’s with all the real serious, real estate — well we wanted you to know the news of real estate’s death has been exaggerated — The TalkCharlotte Team Bunch and our clients are doing quite well here in Charlotte…just sayin’

Friday Fun: What NOT to do on Facebook…just saying

May 22nd, 2009 categories: About Our Realtors, Charlotte Real Estate Trends, Friday Fun, Giving Back in Charlotte, Market Snap

Facebook, Twitter, Blogging,
and that next big thing  ~ it’s all part of a big ball of virtual wax called social networking. We have come a long way (Thank God) from the anonymous “AOL chat rooms” where you did not know who you were chatting with and too many were out waving their “freak flags high”. Today online is different because it’s the same as real life ~ real people are using the internet to connect and stay connected ~ believe the naysayers at your own peril ~ but people are connecting, learning and engaging online and those online connections are building and strengthening relationships in the real world in coffee shops across America! Join In!

Today social media is all about transparency ~ transparency is the new black! TalkCharlotte is now well - known on Twitter follow us, Facebook become a fan and of course we’ve been right here a leader in real estate/community blogging.

Many say all this social networking is nonsense, a waste of time or worse. I can appreciate that and it can be a time drain but I also believe that social networking is here to stay and will evolve nicely. Where I think people go wrong is making it too much, sometimes ALL about themselves, their ideas, their links, their stories, their cat… (icanhascheezburger truly for the cat lovers, serious cat lovers)

Want social media to work for you? Replace these two words ME & NETWORK with these three YOU & CONNECT & ENGAGE and you will thrive in the “social media space” (been waiting to use some geek speak) You’ll enjoy the interactions, the learning and you will see time wasted will become time treasured.

Oh but there are rules, manners and well this video says it best….“suggest you not friend Donna Whitehouse” just saying…

Don’t Vote.

OK, maybe it’s just a bunch of superstars telling us (wink wink) not to vote (Ellen is a trip don’t ya think?)  But the point is well taken, setting politics aside for the moment there has probably never been a better, more important time TO VOTE! We really are at a critical juncture in this country and the decision we make will have a profound impact on our jobs, families and yes….our Charlotte homes!

It has been quite a week for Charlotte losing one of our most valued corporate citizens Wachovia and I am afraid this is only the beginning of some very challenging times ahead. We will Prevail.
Remember too (parties aside) Pat McCrory would be a very Charlotte friendly Governor and Charlotte has long needed a strong voice in Raleigh biased state politics.

So, of course VOTE, vote your conscience ~ we @ Talk Charlotte just ask that you join us and please VOTE on November 4. (read about the video here)

Florida can’t relocate!

September 26th, 2008 categories: Friday Fun

We certainly don’t want to minimize or make light of the catastrophic hurricanes the past few weeks (see Red Cross link below) - but we also know that life will go on and that one of our most precious possessions is not a possession at all it’s our sense of humor.

So hopefully this will give you a chuckle and if you are so inclined here is a link to the Red Cross who among others is doing some amazing work putting lives back together in the Caribbean, along the Gulf Coast and in Florida.

Friday Fly Fun or How to swat one!

August 29th, 2008 categories: Friday Fun, Good stuff we find

On my way to grab some coffee today I heard this story on NPR radio about why its so darn hard to swat flies. (I hate flies, spiders and snakes BTW) Howfly.jpg do they know the swatter is coming? How do they move so fast ? Do they think it through, or is it instinct? Well low and behold Michael Dickinson and Gwyneth Card have been working pretty hard to find the answers and what they found (Insect Flight, Michael Dickinson: Current Biology 8/28/08) is pretty darned interesting.

There is a good reason flies escape…they dance!  “They perform an elegant little ballet with their legs,” says Dickinson. “They move their legs around to reposition their bodies so that when they do jump, they will push themselves away from the looming threat.” Who knew? So there you have it, read Joe Palca’s NPR article here and watch the amazing stop action videos (click on the fly over there>)
…so next time you might just outwit that fly! Have a great Labor Day weekend!
