Uptown Charlotte even has its own magazine(s)!
January 15th, 2009 categories: A Charlotte Institution, Charlotte Area Grab Bag, Charlotte Lifestyle, Fun for Grown Ups, Fun for Kids
Yeah who knew, well we knew but maybe you didn’t — Charlotte has a couple of great magazines focus
ed on the still growing and bustling Uptown area. Check out this link to Uptown’s super cool online version of the magazine. If you’ve never seen an online magazine where you can actually turn the page it’s pretty cool. And make sure to watch the short video promoting Under the Influence at Charlotte’s iconic Visualite theatre (it’s not what you think!) SKI much?
Or maybe come by the Visualite and check out the Gourds — now that one caught us by
surprise too! Rhonda, Jackie and I however did see two great Duncan Sheik shows at the Visualite if that is more your style!
Oh yes and make sure you check out Charlotte’s newest uptown magazine EYE Charlotte by our friend and reknowned Charlotte Observer reporter Crystal Dempsey!

Ikea will Bea in Charlottea Area in 2009!
January 14th, 2009 categories: Charlotte Area Grab Bag, Charlotte Lifestyle, The Charlotte Scoop
OK I think I may have given rhyming a seriously bad name! But IKEA is opening soon in Charlotte and I have to say not a moment too soon — we need some fresh new retail! The chain’s 356,000 square foot store (one of it’s largest) opens February 18 in the bustling University area. IKEA founded in 1943 in Helsingborg, Sweden brings it’s eclectic mix of home furnishings, bath, kitchen and full interior design services –Â basically uber cool stuff you really don’t see anywhere else! Get a preview here at their website! Who doesn’t need a royal feline futon or should I say BASTIS…

Bordering on Bliss
November 28th, 2008 categories: Charlotte Area Grab Bag, Charlotte Lifestyle, Charlotte Real Estate Trends
Do you want to make a run for the border? Is your mouth watering thinking of sinking your teeth into that delicious, meaty taco . Well. . . you’re thinking of the wrong border.   The border that I’m talking about is the South Carolina border and the town of Fort Mill, SC. Â
Check out this YouTube video for a tour of Fort Mill. Fort Mill has a lot to offer so you could be bordering on bliss if you lived there.
If you still aren’t sure about venturing south of border, here’s an incentive.  Baseball is already there. Baseball may or may not return to Charlotte. If you lived in Fort Mill, you would be in the hometown of The Charlotte Knights, a minor league baseball team.   What baseball fan would not enjoy the prospect of seeing a professional team on a regular basis during baseball season? Plus, you can always stop at the local Taco Bell in Fort Mill on your way to the baseball game to satisfy your taco craving.

Rhonda & Michael to meet Lance and Ride for the Roses
October 22nd, 2008 categories: Charlotte Area Grab Bag, Giving Back in Charlotte, Rhonda Gibbons
Yes it’s true (we’ve pinched ourselves repeatedly) Rhonda and I are off this weekend to participate in the Ride for the Roses LIVESTRONG cycling event in Austin Texas. We are guests of the 24 Hours of Booty Team and its founder, my good friend Spencer Lueders. And YES we are going to meet Lance ~ in fact if all goes as planned I will have the honor of riding with Lance on Saturday (check back here for pictures and giddy commentary)
So why post about this, well first we are obviously bursting with excitement but more importantly I think it shows that if you dedicate yourself to something and work tirelessly good things do happen. Rhonda loves cycling and it is her way to give back to the Charlotte community that has given her so much! As for me it has been a dream of mine to meet Lance ever since I bought a bike and started MojoRiding in 2005. Since that time Rhonda, me and our team (mostly) have raised over $250,000 for local Charlotte charities including $130,000 for the official LIVESTRONG event the 24 Hours of Booty which takes place each summer in our beloved Myers Park neighborhood.
In Austin Rhonda and I will be riding (and wearing buttons) in memory of our cousins Dale and Janie and so many others we have come to know in our fight against cancer. We will hold a special place for local heroes Brandon Elam, Hope Stout and our new friend Ellie Potvin ~ young people who have and continue to battle cancer courageously. (please check out their websites - remarkable families who are giving back in Charlotte). I will carry the thoughts of many, many more people whom I have come to know through my Buttons of Hope ~ you are all with me.
So wish us luck and take some time to read more about the people who are making a difference at the links above or through my Behind the Button blog. Godspeed and makehope!
